Negli ultimi giorni della Seconda guerra mondiale, il giovane soldato tedesco Willi Herold, in fuga e braccato come disertore, trova per caso l’uniforme di un capitano nazista. Indossarla gli permette di assumere una nuova identità e di esercitare un potere assoluto su chiunque incontri.
