Digitmovies presents the volume XXII of the series devoted to the Italian Peplum by issuing for the very first time on CD, complete and in full stereo, the OST by Gino Marinuzzi Jr. for the movie “Marte, dio della guerra” (aka “The son of Hercules vs. Venus”) directed in 1962 by Marcello Baldi and starring Roger Browne, Massimo Serato, Linda Sini, Jackie Lane, Dante Di Paolo, Renato Speziali, Corrado Annicelli, John Kitzmiller, Renato Navarrini. After taking part in a war, having fallen in love with Daphne (Lane), the beautiful daughter of the King of Cronus, the god Mars (Browne) decides to stay on Earth among mortals - but not before having killed the bad guy (Serato) who is eaten alive by a monstrous carnivorous plant. A few tracks from this score had appeared in mono on a promotional CAM CML library LP, but we made the remarkable discovery that in addition to the excellent condition of the master tapes, the OST had even been recorded in a spectacular full stereo. Gino Marinuzzi Jr. has written and conducted a beautiful symphonic score where the heroic main theme gets introduced in the “Main Titles” (Tr.1) and reprised in Tr.2, Tr.6. The author alternates dramatic and violent music themes for battle scenes (Tr.4, Tr.5, Tr.7, Tr.18) with mysterious and magical sounds (Tr.12, Tr.15, Tr.19, Tr.22) and with an exotic love theme which appears in Tr.4 and is later reprised in Tr.8, Tr.24 as well as in the two “Finale” tracks - one version with choir (Tr. 25) and the alternate take without choir (Tr.26).
