Digitmovies continues the series dedicated to the scores by Ennio Morricone for Italian "Giallo" movies releasing the second volume with the OST of "Cosa avete fatto a Solange?" (aka "What have you done to Solange?") directed by Massimo Dallamano. Realized in 1972, this movie is one of the best Italian giallos of the ' 70s, born on the wave of the Dario Argento movies. Notwithstanding, this movie is not only far away from the typically Argento plots, but it also has its own originality both in the plot and in the brutality of the murders (terrific the stabbings into the low belly of the young female protagonists), as well as in the technical realization. Placed in a gloomy London, the Dallamano movie describes the dramatic and torbid secret lives of the students of a respectable English college with distressing realism. This macabre atmosphere is perfectly underscored by the alarming music by M°Morricone. At the movie's release time no record was issued excerpt from this OST neither on 33 rpm format nor 45 rpm format. A 33 rpm vinyl LP (RCA SP 8062) was released only in 1986, with 13 selected tracks and prepared for an album that never saw the light of day in 1972.The same material was then re-issued on CD RCA Records 74321-49904-2 (OST 135) in 1997. Our new CD was made possible thanks to the collaboration of M°Morricone who has given us the permission to enclose eight extra tracks found on the original stereo master tapes of the '72 session. The orchestral score is mostly dominated by experimental music given by atonal performances of trumpet and strings strongly in contrast to the sweet theme for piano, female voice and orchestra of the Main Titles (Tr.1), later reprised in a short version (Tr.14) and in the alternate take with a long introduction of flute and orchestra used as End Titles (Tr.21).
