IO SONO L’ABISSO - LA RAGAZZA NELLA NEBBIA - CD

The alpha and omega, we could say: the first and the last soundtrack I wrote for Donato Carrisi (to date).

Two scores that are very different from each other, because I believe that a composer of applied music must be able to navigate between styles, ensembles, and moods, even those that are quite different.

In THE GIRL IN THE FOG, there isn't a definition of a single character's theme; electronic music outlines and delimits the action, meaning when the action is more important than what the character feel. Orchestral music, on the other hand, is used to underline a particular emotional detail of the individual character. In short, I tried to make the widespread rule in American scores my own, according to which the music should not express the depicted action but describe the characters' feeling.

In INTO THE ABYSS, the approach is decidedly more intimate: there is a single theme played by three instruments (piano, viola and cello) and then, regarding navigating between different styles, "My Queen": a rap-pop that represents a bit of the dark soul of this soundtrack.

The music of  Vito Lo Re seems to come directly from the camera. It is light in the form of notes. From the exact moment they bind to the image, it is no longer possible to separate one from the other.

PLOT INTO THE ABYSS

Lake Como, Every evening, a waste collector tours the nightclubs and lures and kills prostitutes, all blonde and all over 60. A male voice from behind a green door tells him what to do, including punishing himself every time he makes a mistake. A mother tries to protect the local women from male violence and occasionally sees her ex-husband, a teacher who wants her to leave their former marital home. A thirteen-year-old girl with the purple tuft has a conflicting relationship with "a father of steel and a distracted mother", and is forced into prostitution by her boyfriend. One day, the cleaner saves the girl with the purple tuft from a suicide attempt... for him, it will be the beginning of the end.

PLOT - THE GIRL IN THE FOG

Sixteen-year-old Anna Lou - a good girl with long red hair belonging to a very conservative religious fraternity - disappears from the mountain village of Avechot. Inspector Vogel, who has a professional reputation to save and a propensity to leverage the mass media, takes an interest in the case. Since a high school teacher with a wife and daughter has just moved to Avechot, who better than a stranger to the community to be considered the main suspect?
