Digitmovies, with collaboration of C.A.M. srl a division of Gruppo Sugar, is very glad to present, as third volume of its de-luxe digipack series, complete on double CD set, the OST by Carlo Rustichelli for one of the milestones of the Italian Cinema: ”Divorzio all’italiana” (aka “Divorce italian style”) directed in 1962 by Pietro Germi and starring Marcello Mastroianni, Stefania Sandrelli, Daniela Rocca, Lando Buzzanca, Leopoldo Trieste, Odoardo Spadaro, Antonio Acqua, Pietro Tordi, Renzo Marignano, Renato Pinciroli, Margherita Girelli, Angela Cardile, Ugo Torrente, Bianca Castagnetta, Giovanni Fassiolo, Ignazio Roberto Daidone, Francesco Nicastro, Edy Nogara, Daniela Igliozzi, Laura Tomiselli, Saro Arcidiacono, Bruno Bertocci. Madly in love with her cousin Angela (Sandrelli), Baron Fefe Cefalù (Mastroianni), is studying a plan to kill his wife Rosalia (Rocca) and appeal to the murder of honor. The plan will succed and thus lead the beloved Angela to the altar. The screenplay was written by Ennio De Concini, Pietro Germi, Alfredo Giannetti and Agenore Incrocci, the latter is not mentioned in the credits. The town of Agramonte on the screen does not actually exist, but Ispica, Sicily in the south-east of Sicily, was actually used as a location, while scenes in the movie theatre were filmed in the Teatro Bellini of Adrano. It is said that during filming, the scene where Fefè imagines his wife Rosalia swallowed by quicksand, a technical incident occurred slipping further down than expected the actress and nearly the tragedy was touched on the set. In the film the noted dubbing actress Rita Savagnone lent her voice  both Sandrelli  and Rocca. Pietro Germi with this film goes to comedy adapting the story from the dramatic novel by Giovanni Arpino “Un delitto d’onore” transforming it with irony and representing with an enjoyable way attitudes and instincts of the province of Sicily and dealing with much sarcasm the legislative backwardness inItaly at the time. Mastroianni is unsurpassed in the title role in perfect synergy with the supporting actors like Rocca, Sandrelli and Trieste. In 1962, the National Board of Review of Motion Pictures has included "Divorzio all'italiana" in the list of the best foreign films of the year. The film won the Oscar in 1963 for best original screenplay and Mastroianni was nominated as best actor and Germi as best director. Mastroianni in 1963 won the Golden Globe: Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture - Musical Or Comedy. At the time C.A.M. released a 45 rpm single with three musical selections (C.A.M. CA 2392), in France a 45 rpm EP single with five tracks was issued (Barclay 70 463) and an LP was printed in America with 14 tracks (United Artists UAL 4106). To realize our double CD we could use all the mono master tapes of the original recording sessions including the master of the album on CD 1 (32:24), while on CD 2 (67:48) we included all the movie versions and alternate takes that bring the total time to about one hundred minutes divided into fifty one tracks. Carlo Rustichelli has created a true melodramatic music work built on a careful study of Sicilian folk music that emerges in "Canto d’amore" (Tr. 1) alternating it with elegant and sometimes funny passages for strings that can be called "Rustichelliani" to all effects. But we do not want to add too many words on this score .... it's the music itself to speak, honored with the greatest affection from our special edition double CD.
